Labor Category Descriptions and Required Minimum Qualifications

Labor Category and Duties Minimum Education
Project Director

Responsible for allocation of personnel and resources for the project. In charge of project design, planning, and implementation. Prepares and reviews proposals, reports, and research. Responsible for coordination of all technical elements, including the purchase and maintenance of hardware, software, and equipment. Responsible for product quality.

Bachelors degree plus 18 years experience or Masters degree plus 10 years experience.
Senior Surveyor

Supervises geodetic surveys and mapping projects. Establishes GPS base station and ground control requirements for aerial photography and remote sensing products. Supervises data acquisition and reduction, conducts background research, writes survey reports.

Bachelors degree plus 15 years experience or Masters degree plus 8 years experience.
Senior Cartographer

Supervises and trains staff in providing CADD and GIS products. Provides expertise for the integration of 3D data into products, the development of new cartographic products, and the planning, oversight and design of interpretive and exhibit products. Responsible for maintenance and upgrading of mapping equipment and softwares.

Bachelors degree plus 15 years experience or Masters degree plus 8 years experience.
Project Manager II

Assists the Project Director by managing budget and schedule of deliverables for the project. Responsible for knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Manages all project personnel and maintains direct communication with the client.

Bachelors degree plus 10 years experience or Masters degree plus 6 years experience.
Principal Investigator

Assists the Project Manager II on the task level, implementing the research design and managing tasks budgets. Coordinates and schedules personnel and resources, oversees compliance issues, provides background research, and contributes to writing reports.

Bachelors degree plus 8 years experience or Masters degree plus 5 years experience.
Senior Scientist

Provides expertise in areas of special studies such as paleoethnobotany, geophysics, osteology, architectural achaeology, laser scanning, cartography.

Project Manager I

Reports task progress to the Principal Investigator. Responsible for the recording of compliance documentation, daily management of the task budget, and keeping the task on schedule. Oversees personnel and resources on the task level.

3D Imaging Specialist

Performs technical tasks related to the acquiring, reducing, and analysing of 3D laser scanning data and imagery, and the production of various 3D products such as ortho-photomosaics, 3D animations, and visualizations.

Bachelors degree plus 8 years experience or Masters degree plus 5 years experience.
Senior GIS/Cadd

Conducts mapping and surveying field projects, data reduction, and GIS analyses. Graphical products include architectural, cartographic, geographic, and geological maps.

Senior Archaeologist

Supervises field crew conducting archaeological surveys, cultural resource inventories, scanning and mapping projects. Oversees excavation, artifact research and analysis, data collection, documentation and reporting, and the use of technical equipment and tools.

Bachelors degree plus 5 years experience or Masters degree plus 3 years experience.
Archivist/Historian

Specializes in historical research and documentation, archival studies, and oral interviewing. Conducts research of state and national register files, and contributes to background research for technical reports.

Junior Scientist

Under supervision, provides support in areas of special studies such as paleoethnobotany, geophysics, osteology, architectural achaeology, laser scanning, cartography.

Bachelors degree plus 5 years experience or Masters degree plus 3 years experience.
Multimedia Designer

Specializes in the design, development, and production of internet and intranet web sites and their content. Provides technical direction for the presentation of interactive interpretive materials.

Bachelors degree plus 4 years experience or Masters degree plus 1 years experience.
Junior GIS/Cadd

Assists Senior GIS/Cadd personnel in performing technical tasks related to the acquiring of scanning data and the production of mapping products.

Bachelors degree plus 2 years experience or High School diploma / General Educational Development (GED) certificate plus 5 years experience.
Technical Editor

Provides copy-writing and proof-reading services, including grammar, spelling, and readability of technical documents. Assures continuity and use of accepted academic standards for the writing of technical reports.

Archaeological Technician II

Under supervision, assists in conducting surveys and reconnaissance, archaeological site testing, data recovery by excavation. Maintains documentation of architectural and archaeological artifact and site illustrations and photographs.

Bachelors degree plus 3 years experience or High School diploma / General Educational Development (GED) certificate plus 6 years experience.
Archaeological Technician I

Under supervision, performs semi-skilled tasks at archaeological field sites, assists in basic surveys, sketches maps, records site survey forms, collects and records artifacts, and conducts flotation of soil samples.

Bachelors degree plus 1 year experience or High School diploma / General Educational Development (GED) certificate plus 4 years experience.
Word Processor III

Provides expertise in digital processing of multi-authored technical reports. Applies formatting to graphics and content, and prepares documents for digital production.

Bachelors degree plus 1 year experience or High School diploma / General Educational Development (GED) certificate plus 3 years experience.
